Windward O‘ahu Bahá’ís Present a Virtual Centenary Program
Submitted by Ed Young - Office of Public Affairs (Hawaii Baha'i Community)
On 28 November, the Ko‘olaupoko Baháʼí community presented an online commemorative program about the 100th anniversary of the passing of 'Abdu'l-Bahá. The video, titled “A Life of Active Service to Humanity,” was based on the life of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá. The program included short reflections of interfaith leaders, and included film, pictures, and stories about the life of service of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, including his visits to Europe and North America.
Friends from Hawai‘i and across the United States were in attendance at the initial broadcast, and it is hoped that more people will be able to view the program and download it for future firesides. The program is available on YouTube.

Meet new people and study the Word of God, the Meaning of Life, the life of the soul, and share your thoughts.
Everyone can study together to help you understand your purpose in life, build your faith, and become a happy being.
~~~~~~~~
"A Study Circle is a small group that meets perhaps once a week, usually in the home of one of its members, to study the course materials. The materials include passages from the Baha'i Writings related to specific themes and acts of service Among the questions participants explore are how to create environments that put people in contact with the spiritual forces released through prayer and devotion; how to strength bonds of friendship and establish meaningful patters of communication among people of various backgrounds; how to make the education of children an integral part of community life; how to help young people develop their intellectual and spiritual capacities; and how to generate dynamics with the family unit that give rise to material and spiritual prosperity."
Become a part of something bigger than yourself. Around the world, people of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds are engaged in a process of Community Building based on the unifying teachings of Baha'u'llah, the founder of the Baha'i Faith.
"Through a process of prayerful study, consultation, action, and reflection, children, youth, and adults engage in their own spiritual development. They explore spiritual concepts together and apply them in their own communities. Capacities for service are developed and increasingly complex collective actions becomes possible. Transformation of self and society go hand in hand."
Prayer for Children
". . .Thou seest these children who are the twigs of the tree of life, the birds of the meads of salvation, the pearl of the ocean of Thy grace, the roses of the garden of Thy guidance. . ." - Baha'i Prayer
Baha'i Prayer
O God! Refresh and gladden my spirit. Purify my heart. Illumine my powers. I lay all my affairs in Thy hand. Thou art my Guide and my Refuge. I will no longer be sorrowful and grieved; I will be a happy and joyful being. O God! I will no longer be full of anxiety, nor will I let trouble harass me. I will not dwell on the unpleasant things of life.
O God! Thou art more friend to me than I am to myself. I dedicate myself to Thee, O Lord. - 'Abdu'l-Bahá
Here are a few links where you can find Baha'i Prayers:
Devotional prayers may be offered in the believer's own words. In addition, there is a large corpus of devotional prayers written by the the central figures of the Bahá'í Faith (the Bab, Baha’u’llah, and Abdu’l-Baha), which are used extensively by Bahá'ís in their devotional life. These prayers, encompassing many topics that include healing, spiritual qualities, tests and difficulties, parents, children, and are held in high esteem. The specific words are believed by many Bahá'ís to have special power. Group reading from prayer books is a common feature of Bahá'í gatherings. Commonly, Bahá'ís gather informally in each other's homes to read prayers in events known as devotionals. Participants in a devotional gathering take turns reading aloud from a prayer book, while the others listen in reverent silence.
"Baha'is view the family as the nucleus of human society and family life as the primary place to develop values and capacities essential to the betterment of society. The moral and spiritual education of children assumes vital importance in a world where the joy and innocence of childhood can so easily be overwhelmed by materialism.
The Baha'i ideal is a family life that cultivates a loving and respectful relationship between parents and children and promotes the principles of consultation and harmony in decision making.
The teachings emphasize the importance of the education of women and girls, both for their own advancement and because it is through educated mothers that the benefits of knowledge can be most effectively and rapidly diffused throughout society.
Ultimately, the air is for children to increasingly grow up free from all forms of prejudices, recognizing the oneness of humanity and appreciating the innate dignity and nobility of every human being. Baha'u'llah called on us to regard one another as "the fruits of one tree and the leaves of one branch." Inspired by this vision, Baha'is partner with their neighbors, friends, and colleagues to create programs for the spiritual education of children."
Brief background about the Baha'i Faith:
"Founded a century and a half ago, the Baha'i Faith is today among the fastest-growing of the world's religions. With more than five million followers, who reside in virtually every nation on earth, it is the second-most widespread faith, surpassing every religion but Christianity in its geographic reach. Baha'is reside in more than 100,000 localities around the world, an expansion that reflects their dedication to the ideal of world citizenship."
ONE UNFOLDING RELIGION
"The religions of the world have been founded by successive Manifestations of God. Each religion originates with God and is suited to the age and place in which it is revealed. In essence, the religion of God is one and is progressively unfolding."
"There is only one God, the Creator of the universe. Throughout history, God has revealed Himself to humanity through a series of divine Messengers- each of whom has founded a great religion. The Messengers have included Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad. This succession of divine Teachers reflects a single historic "plan of God" for educating humanity about the Creator and for cultivating the spiritual, intellectual, and moral capacities of the human race. The goal has been to prepare the way for a single, global, and ever-advancing civilization. Knowledge of God's will for humanity in the modern age was revealed just over 100 years ago by Baha'u'llah, who is the latest of these divine Messengers."
Abdu'l-Baha, the eldest son of the Prophet Founder of the Baha'i Faith, Baha'ullah, was the perfect exemplar of the Baha'i Faith's spirit and teachings. A champion of social justice and an ambassador for international peace, He devoted His life to furthering His Father's causes and to promoting its ideals. He visited America in 1911-1914, visiting 40 cities. He was greeted with respect and acclaim by Baha'is and the general public alike, and was invited to speak to distinguished groups and organizations at universities, in churches and synagogues, and the homes of prominent individuals.
There is no clergy in the Baha'i Faith. Each local community is guided by an elected body of nine members of the Baha'i Faith, through secret ballot on an annual basis.
Each country has a National body of nine Baha'i members elected annually by secret ballot.
In addition, every five years, the International body (The Universal House of Justice), consisting of nine elected Baha'i members, serve to guide the affairs of the worldwide community of over 5 million Baha'is.
Youth have played a vital role in Baha'i History from the very start. Young people have energy, idealism and the desire to contribute to the betterment of the world, regardless of their social situations...While youth have many matters that occupy their time and energy, by developing patterns of behavior that balance the spiritual and material requirements of life, they discover both personal growth and meaning.
Also, by developing spiritual perception, the power of expression, and a moral framework, youth are empowered to live a life free of contradictions and contribute to an ever-advancing civilization.
